Badminton update

This week there are four Dublin and District matches to report on, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club. We start on Tuesday 11 November with KBC’s Mix 4 starting their league campagin off at home against An Caislain Nua. It wasn’t the dream start that Chelsey and her team were looking for, and they lost 6-0 to one of Dublins strongest teams in Division 3. It was nice though to meet and greet two of KBC’s ex members Alan Anderson and Sorcha O’ Loughlin who moved from the club a few years ago to work in Dublin.

Thursday 14 November saw Katherine and her mix 7 team away to Danum in their first league outing. Katherine and her team started their campaign in flying fashion with a 6-0 win. Well done to Katherine and the gang who now have won their opening League and Cup matches.

Also out Thursday night last were Caroline's mix 3 who played a young Trinity team in the first round of the Division 3 cup. This was a hard fought and close match with Trinity just pipping KBC at the post 3-2. Caroline travelled to Trinity with two subs and after the two singles and doubles games the match was tied at 2-2 but unfortunatley we lost the mixed match in a tight game where Caroline and Martin just didn’t have the bit of luck that’s sometimes needed to win a match, but as Caroline said herself “coming second wasn’t bad for an unrehearsed team!”. Well done to Caroline, Annette and her subs Martin and yours truly.!

The final game we cover is our Ladies 3 home match against the An Caislain Nua ladies played on Friday 15 November. In this Division 8 cup clash Denise and her team failed to progress into the next round loosing 3-0. Hard luck to Denise, Orla, Emer and Nora who put up a great fight and this 3-0 defeat doesn’t give a true reflection on how close the games were. Good luck to the girls in their league.

On an upbeat note the Club would like to wish Ladies 2, Ladies 6, Mens 1 and Mens 2 good luck in the South West League semi finals. Out of the six teams that were involved in the Ladies and Mens Doubles Leagues these four are now in the semis, well done to all for getting so far in your first season in the competition.
