Liffey Descent report

The 65th International Liffey Descent took place recently, writes David McDonnell, PRO of Kilcullen Canoe Club.

Eleven Kilcullen Canoe Club paddlers braved the 30km stretch of the Liffey from the K Club in Straffan, Co Kildare to Islandbridge in Dublin. The Grand National of canoe races, paddlers face ten weirs, rapids and a portage of Leixlip dam.

Club members David McDonnell and Noel O’Connell finished 3rd in Touring Doubles class. Junior member Oisin Farrell, who is on the Irish Junior Slalom team, powered his way to a win in Junior GP for the 2nd year in a row. Congratulations to all members who completed the course despite capsizes and damaged boats.

Pool sessions have started back on Saturday afternoons in the Curragh pool from 2-3pm. New members and beginners are welcome.
