Push to have early upgrade to footpath
A motion asking Kildare County Council to push ahead with the upgrading of the footpath between Scoil Bhride and the Athy Road via the Community Centre will be discussed at the next meeting of the Naas Municipal District, writes Brian Byrne.
The motion has been put down by Cllr Rob Power, following representations from local residents, on the basis that Scoil Bhride has paid a contribution of €27,000 towards the work as part of conditions set on planning permission for current building work at the School.
Cllr Power says he followed up the representations with the area engineer, who told him that the Council is still working on a projects list that was set out earlier in the year. If nothing changes, it's probable that the footpath may not be upgraded until 2015.
"In the hope of expediting the project I've submitted a motion to this month's Naas area meeting that the council push ahead with these works immediately given that funding has been secured," he told the Diary.
Meantime, Orla O'Neill has organised a meeting with local area councillors and the area engineer for 8.30am next Friday to discuss the issue. Any organisation around the Community Centre which uses the path is welcome to attend.
