Kilcullen helps Kildare win P&P championships
The National Inter County championships took place recently at the Tullamore pitch and putt club in County Offaly, writes Darren Keogh. This competition pits the best six players from each county, ladies and gents, against each other over two days play.
The Kildare ladies went into the championship looking to win their first title since 2008 and fresh off their 2nd place to Dublin in the Leinster championship.
At the end of the first day's action the ladies held a 6-shot lead over Dublin, with everyone else trailing well behind. All six ladies would play one round of singles on Sunday to decide the fate of the championship. Midway through the final round Dublin had caught up and maintained a narrow advantage.
With all the momentum going Dublins way, including two hole in ones, things began to look bleak. The Kildare ladies hung tough however, and made no mistakes coming home on the very difficult last six holes. Dublin began to falter and before we knew it the ladies had a 5-shot advantage and the title was theirs.
Many congratulations to all the ladies involved, Chrissie Byrne (St Bridgets), Marian Byrne (St Bridgets), Margaret Keogh (St Bridgets), Tara Dillon (St Bridgets), Mairead o Toole (Poulaphouca) and Mary Donnelly (Ryston).
