App and course on dementia care
An app to help carers of people suffering with dementia has been developed by the Home Instead Senior Care organisation, whose Kildare operations are based in Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.
The app is available free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, and is free. It provides almost 500 tips on care of people with Alzheimers and other dementia, under 25 categories. The tips are searchable from the app.
The innovation offers advice on behaviours and situations, and how to find emotional support and other resources.
It has an 'ask the question' facility if finding an answer proves to be difficult. There's also links to 24-hour phone or email support. All the tips are accessible without the necessity for being online.
September is World Alzheimer’s Month and to support family caregivers in the local community, Home Instead Senior Care is offering a free dementia care education workshop on Thursday, 18 September in Fallons, Kilcullen from 6-8pm. The new Daily Companion App will include all advice and information presented at these workshops.
Visit www.homeinstead.ie or call 045 484 623 to register for a workshop and receive additional dementia care support and assistance.
