James wins third medal in Krakow
James Nolan won a bronze medal in the 400m Sprint race today at the European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships in Krakow, writes Gwen O'Donoghue. This comes a day after winning a silver in his golf event yesterday and a bronze in the Summer Biathlon event earlier this week.
Tomorrow, on the final day of events in Krakow, James will run the 200m, 800m race and the 4x100m relay race.
In an interesting twist of fate consultant Ron Grainger from Castleknock and James — who is his patient — competed in the same handicap competition which resulted in Ron, a kidney transplant recipient, securing gold and James securing silver.
James, who received a kidney from his sister Catherine 27 years ago, said the Irish played brilliantly in golf and he's delighted with his performance so far. “I was paired with my consultant Ron Grainger. I was chuffed to see him win the gold as he is a wonderful surgeon, brilliant doctor and absolute gentleman.”
