Illegal use means locks on bin
Locks have had to be put on a large bin used for waste from the Community Playground, because people have been using it to dispose of their domestic waste, writes Brian Byrne.
The bin is provided by Kildare County Council to hold waste from smaller bins which are emptied every day by Kilcullen Community Action, who manage the Playground on behalf of the Council.
The illegal use of the bin was found when on a number of occasions it was full unexpectedly, and inspection showed that it was being 'hijacked' by persons unknown.
KCA notes that there is a CCCTV system in the area which will be inspected if any similar incidents occur with other bins. Hefty fines can be imposed on people who use bins in this way.
