Candles of Hope at River Festival

The paper bags for the Candles of Hope, which will be lit on the track at sundown at Kildare Relay For Life, will be on sale at the Kilcullen River Festival, writes Esther Reddy.

I will be selling a paper bag that you buy for €5 and on it you can put the name of someone who is going through cancer care, or who has passed on through cancer. I'll then take them back on the day and at Relay for Life on 6/7 September the bags will be partially filled with sand and a candle placed in them.

They will be put on the track in a large circle and lit together. The lights will be lowered and a period of silence will happen to reflect. This will be an emotional time for everyone.

So I will be delighted if many from the Kilcullen area could buy a bag.
