Kilcullen Diary

WEATHER

Rather cloudy at first this morning with some patches of rain, drizzle and mist. Brightening during the afternoon with a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with the chance of a few heavy showers breaking out towards evening time. Maximum temperatures generally ranging from 17 to 21 degrees in a light to moderate northerly breeze. Any showers are expected to die out early tonight.

DID YOU KNOW?

With the advent of the Industrial Revolution in 19th-century Britain, a trade developed as 'knocker-upper', people who were paid by workers to tap on their bedroom windows to wake them in time to go to work. The knocker-uppers used long poles or in some cases pea-shooters to make discreet noises on the upstairs bedroom windows of their clients. In some parts of England, the trade persisted until the 1970s.
