'Life in the Trenches' talk this afternoon

Just a reminder that what promises to be a fascinating illustrated talk will be given in the Heritage Centre this afternoon by Col Des Travers, on the life in the trenches of WW1, writes Brian Byrne. It will include some rare film clips from the period.

We now know that at least 27 Kilcullen men died in WW1, and the commemoration group set up by Julie Donoghue is constantly hearing about more local connections with that conflict (many who served did make it home, and there are families in town who have direct relatives in that time and war).

Today's free event starts at 2pm, and afterwards there will be a field trip for those who want to go along to the network of training trenches which still exist at Flagstaff Hill on The Curragh. The camp was one of the main training bases for British soldiers going out to fight in war.

Well worth an afternoon.
