Badminton Club update

As it comes to the end of the season on reflection we can honestly say it has been a great season for the club, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.

In all, the senior club have won competed in ten Badminton Opens with KBC winning nine out of the ten and being runners up in two of the finals. Well done to Lynsey, Aoife, Tara, Sarah, Caroline, Jen, Vincent, Paddy, Dave, Darren, Fintan, Garreth and Darren who either won or were runners in these competitions, if I was to name all their achievements in these Opens I would surely be here all day.

Out of all these Opens the Highlight has to be Lynsey Walsh and Dave McClean’s All Ireland Open win held in Baldoyle in April.

In the Dublin District and South West Leagues KBC also had some great success with two of our teams competing in Quarter Finals, and three teams competing in Finals. Mix 4 and Mix 3 won the Grade 9 and Grade 5 South West League Cup finals while our Mens 1 reached a new height by playing in the Dublin District League Final only losing out on points difference. Well done to all especially captains Olivier and his Mix 4 team, Enda and the Mix 3 team and Paddy and the Mens 1 team who did us so proud in their Division 3 Mens final.

Well done to all the teams who participated this season, if I’ve forgotten anyone apologies!! Also good luck to John and his Mixed team competing in the over 35s League being run over the next few weeks.

KBC held their AGM last Thursday 15 May, as usual with these meeting new members were elected while other members had to step down after their year in the job, firstly welcome to our new Chairperson Paddy Burke and our new Club Captain Dave Mc Clean, welcome to the committee lads! We all look forward to working with you this year.

Finally from the club I would like to thank Ronan Murphy and Mark Phelan who worked so hard this year for our club, Ronan, your experience, easy going and light hearted humour really kept us sane this year at our meetings, the committee will definitely miss your jokes. Mark, thank you for all your hard work this year, with your National Badminton contacts and your Badminton knowledge you really helped the senior club get on the map. Thank you both again for all your work, if I was an employer I would definitely hire you ... but that would be nepotism, which would be illegal!!!
