KBC win All Ireland championship
Kilcullen Badminton Club achieved its first All-Ireland Championship in a very exciting weekend where Baldoyle Badminton Club hosted the All Ireland Graded Championships, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of KBC.
KBC had representitives in all the disiplines. Our first pairings were Sarah Walshe and Tara O’ Neill who did brilliantly in getting to the Quarter Final of the Grade G Ladies Doubles competition. Sarah and Tara were very unluck loosing the third set in a exciting 21-19 game.
Dave McClean and local lad Gareth Hogan made it to the Semi Final of the Mens doubles while Darren and ex Kilcullen player Jason Kavanagh made it to the Quarter Final in the same grade. Well done to all the lads.
Sarah Walshe made it to the Quarter Finals of the Grade G Ladies Singles and was beaten in a great 3-setter while both Darren and Gareth were knocked out in the first round by the eventual finalists.
Norrie Gilchrist and Lynsey Walshe made it to the Grade E Ladies Doubles competiton and were beaten in two sets 21-15, 21-17.
Now the big news, massive congratulations goes out to our All Ireland Grade E Mixed pairing of Lynsey Walshe. Dave and Lynsey beat the pairing of Ben Gallaher Lynch and Molly Davis in a cracking Finals winning in two sets 21-16 and 21-17. This is a massive achievement for Lynsey, Dave and the Club and is the first time KBC have won an All Ireland Championship. The guys were competing against players from Clubs from all over Ireland, all that can be said is “Fair Play” and well done.
In other news in the Dublin District League playoffs, Mix 2 and Mix 4 were unfortunatley beaten in their respective Quarter Finals matches in Baldoyle earlier this week. Both teams drew on matches and sets but were beaten on points count back, the mix 4 being particulary unlucky been beaten by only two points. Hard luck to Dave and Oliver and their teams.
Mix 3 however beat Mountmellick 5-2 last night in the South West Cup and are now into the finals which will be played next Tuesday night in Carlow, well done to Mix 3 a final at last!!
Finally good luck to Oliver and Mix 4 who play St. Laurences in their Grade 6 South West Cup Final on Wenesday 9 April in Carlow. Go on the RAGS!!!!!
