Jazz at Joeys, did you miss it?

Ok, you probably weren't there, because there were very few of us, writes Brian Byrne. But a pilot Jazz Brunch in Joeys Hideout this morning provided some of the best music I've heard live in a long while.

The Paga 'Bazz duo performing comprised Anita Huntley and Giuseppe Salerno and they gave us a really great range of traditional jazz and blues favourites along with some of Anita's own guitar-backed compositions.

Anita is a Dublin Northsider transposed to Lucan, while Sicilian Giuseppe has only been in the country since last autumn. But his ability on keyboard is of the best jazz piano heritage, while her voice is as true as one could possibly ask for in any genre, but smokes in jazz.

This is planned to be a monthly gig. Look, I'm a singer and a guitarist in my own right for more years than most of you, and I would come for brunch to listen to these guys every Sunday if they could fit it into their gig-space.

Best music I've ever heard here. You should have been.
