Council will examine Thompson's Cross safety
Kildare County Council has asked its Roads Department to examine the Thompson's Cross junction, following a request from Cllr Ivan Keatley that it be redesigned as a matter of health and safety, writes Brian Byrne.
Cllr Keatley had a motion asking that the NRA be asked to do the redesign, but a report to the Athy Area Committee this morning said the roads forming the junction are now Regional roads, and outside the NRA's remit. The junction was built as part of the works for the M8 extension to Carlow, and has been the location for a number of accidents since.
At the same meeting, Cllr Keatley's request for relining of the junction at Gormanstown Church on the Dunlavin Road was answered by a report that the matter was being referred to the Roads Design department as it is 'a somewhat complex junction'. Resurfacing works may be required before any lining works can be undertaken.
And Cllr Martin Miley's motion on the need for resurfacing the Main Street in Kilcullen was answered by news that the work is scheduled 'for 2014'.
