Badminton update
There are five club matches to report on this week for KBC, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.
The first match we cover was on Friday 7 March with Men’s 2 playing Longwood in their DDL Division 5 fixture. The first KBC pair out were captain Sean Gordon and John Mullen who lost their game, two sets to nil. Alan Fitzgearld and Enda O’Neill played in the second game and won in a 3-set thriller beating the Longwood pair two sets to one. This left the match tied at one game all going into the third game. Sean and Enda were defeated in a close hard-fought 3-setter with Longwood taking the first game, Sean and Enda taking the second only to lose out in a heart-breaking third set 21-19. It was then up to Alan and John to win their fourth game to tie the match. Alan and John beat the Longwood men easily 21-14 and 21-13. Men 2 came away with a 2-2 draw, a good result in a difficult venue. Mens 2's last match is at home on Tuesday 18 March, well done and good luck to the lads in their final group match.
Saturday March 8 saw Paddy’s KBC Men 1 visit Eire Friends. Paddy's team look the team they all want to beat, but on this occasion it wasn’t to be as Paddy, Dave, Gareth and Darren beat Eire Friends 3-1 and as Paddy said “they had another happy car journey home”. Well done to the lads.
Tuesday 11 March saw three fixtures being played, with Men 3 visiting Caislain Nua and KBC’s Mix 1 and Mix 2 playing Old School and KADKA at home in the complex. Vincent and his team got a hard earned draw to Caislain Nua with a 2-2 draw, while Paddys Mixed 1 also secured a 2-2 draw with Old School. Dave’s Mix 2 had a 4-0 win over KADKA giving them a great chance to make a Quarter Final appearance later in the month. Well done to Vincent, Kasi, Colin and Fintan on the Mens, Lynsey, Norrie, Gareth and Paddy on the Mix 1 and Dave, Alastor, Aoife and Caroline on Mix 2.
Finally a big congratulations to Nicole Dannagher and Tara O’Neill (no relation!) who won the PBAI, Grade 8/9 Ladies Doubles tournament and Lynsey Walshe who won the Grade 3/4 Ladies Doubles tournement which was held in Whitehall road on Saturday last 10 March. Well done girls in flying the KBC flag and taking some more silver ware. Also good luck to all teams in their matches this week.
