Wonderful evening of music and musings
A full house in St Mary's Church enjoyed the third annual 'Christmas at Castlemartin' evening of music and musings, writes Brian Byrne.
The presentations included Legato from CPC, conducted by Phionagh Gibson and with accompaniment by Eoghan O'Toole; Leah O'Sullivan on the harp; organ pieces from Peter Moloney; readings from Mae Leonard, Emmet O'Sullivan, John Martin and Charlie Talbot; songs from Francie O'Brien, and the McMahon sisters; classical duets from Dorly and Gese; seasonal drama in 'Marley's Ghost' with Bernard Berney and Dick Dunphy; traditional music from Sean Leahy and friends; carols with Monica Martin; and performances of opera and great musicals from tenor Philip Scott.
As always, the front of house was skillfully managed by Eilis Phillips and Fergal Sloan, while John Martin as MC ran the occasion with his usual finesse.
As before, the event was in aid of the Maintain Hope charity in Kenya, and founding director Gerry O'Donoghue thanked all concerned for their support.
