Call for writers for Culture Night

Shout out for young writersKilcullen Community Library will again host a local writers Open Mic for Culture Night 2013, writes Brian Byrne.

The event this year is being held on September 20, a Friday night that's worth putting in your diary already.

The 7.30pm start will allow for up to ten writers to read from their work, and although fiction is likely to predominate, Julie O'Donoghue says biographical and local history contributions will be especially welcome.

"Poets, short story writers, dramatists, song writers, novelists and bloggers are all invited," she says. "Last year's participants were aged between 12 and 70 and it was quite astonishing to see the amount of talent at large in a relatively small community."

The emphasis this year will be on emerging local talent, with a special shout out for young writers.

"Last year there were several enquiries about participation from groups and writers outside the area, but we felt sure that there was enough local talent to make the night a success. And how right we were."

Anyone who would like to take part should contact Julie at 045 482193.
