Daylight intruder steals money
Vigilance needed against daylight robbersA thief entered a house on Main Street this afternoon and took a purse containing a sum of money from the kitchen, writes Brian Byrne. The owner was in the house at the time, and saw the intruder's back as he ran out.
Gardai were quickly on the scene after the alarm was raised. They found that a rear window elsewhere in the house had also been prised open with a tool taken from a shed.
The incident happened at around 4.30 this afternoon, and the thief is described as being around 5'6" tall, wearing black clothing, possibly a suit jacket.
Gardai have warned people to be vigilant about leaving doors and windows open, as there have been a number of daylight thefts and attempted break-ins recently. Two houses in Avondale were burgled last week.
