London contribution to Summer Flowers

The fundraising effort for this year's Summer Flowers project got a boost from London this week when £100 was donated by former Sunnyhill man Harry Smith and his friend Doug.

They pledged £50 each after reading about the shortage of funds for the project this year. Harry and Doug visited Kilcullen last year and were very appreciative of the hospitality they received.

There's a fundraising Quiz on Monday next 15 April in Bardons, and KCA is currently trying to establish the level of interest in having the flowers this year before placing an order.

The tidy towns group is seeking commitments towards the project from residents and businesses who benefit from it. There will be a street collection on Saturday next and the Table Quiz follows on Monday night – tables of four for €40. Starting time is 8.30pm. There are also collection boxes in many shops and pubs in the town.

Both Doug and Harry (pictured above with Jim Kelly of Castlemartin Stud last year), as visitors, very much appreciated the display of flowers through the town last summer. For Harry particularly it was great to see his home town looking so well.
