Ready for the Parade?

Just in case you haven't heard yet, Kilcullen is having its very own St Patrick's Day Parade for the first time this Sunday, writes Brian Byrne.

And the CPC student and Scout who started the whiole thing, Emma Birchall, will be interviewed this morning on KFM radio to tell the county how it will be worth their while to come to Kilcullen for their national saint parade.

We already know that 103 year-old Bridgie Aspell will be the parade's Grand Marshall, riding in an open-topped car if the weather permits.

There will also be Danú (Celtic Irish Goddess) the wolfhound striding out front, and a float from Bridge Camphill will feature a giant St Patrick and snake doing battle to clear the country again of serpents.

The parade will assemble at Bishop Rogan Park and march through the town from 12.30pm. The reviewing stand will be in front of the Bank of Ireland and the parade will continue to the traffic lights before ending with music and dancing from many local music groups.

Clubs, creches, schools and local businesses are taking part in the parade, and the organisers are asking that people turn up and support the parade, which they hope will be the first of many to come for the community of Kilcullen.
