Capers video night suggested

The possibility of holding a video night showing movies of the Capers Shows from the 1970s/80s was discussed at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.

It is understood that a number of such videos are available, and the idea would be to show them in the Town Hall Theatre.

The suggestion came up during a discussion on possible events to be held as part of The Gathering 2013. 

Another suggestion is that the famous bare-knuckle fight between Dan Donnelly and George Cooper be re-enacted. It was done before on two occasions as part of the An Tostal festivities in the early 1950s, both times at Donnelly’s Hollow on The Curragh. 

Noel Clare recalled that a more recent re-enactment had taken place during the 1980s on the front lawn of Castlemartin House. 

It was decided that the idea should be explored with the Boxing Club, which had been part of the 1950s events.
