The recent music night in The Spout pub in aid of the Irish Cancer Society raised more than €4,300, writes Brian Byrne.

It was organised by local musician Jimmy Aspell, himself fighting cancer, and was the second such he has run in two years.

The night attracted a large attendance of local people, and several of Jimmy's musician friends contributed to the entertainment. Among them his 9-year-old daughter Leah.

The event included an auction of very special sporting and music related items, including a signed Kildare team shirt and football and a set of racing silks from JP McManus, signed by AP McCoy.

"People are extraordinarily generous in Kilcullen for something like this," Jimmy says, "especially considering the difficult times that are in it."

Pictured on the night are Jimmy, his son Neil, and his daughters Lisa, Michelle, and Leah.
