Susan Tomelty and Pat Farrell in the BAG

Northerner Susan Tomelty has embarked on a musical journey that has brought her to Drumshanbo Co Leitrim via England, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Belfast and Nashville, writes Roy Thompson of the Ballymore Acoustic Gigs.

With the release of her 'Belfast Live' CD in 1996, which celebrated peace in the North, she supported Van Morrison, and sang for Nelson Mandela in Glasgow.

A pure and distinctive voice, she can cover a wide range of material but her influences are more rhythm and blues, soul, and gospel calling from artists such as Dylan, Big Mama Thornton, The Staple Singers, Susan Tedeschi, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Mike Henderson, Etta James and Steve McGovern.

Pat Farrell is perhaps best known for his work as lead guitarist with Dublin Blues band, ‘The Business’. Formed in 1981, the original line-up of the band included Pat Farrell, Don Baker, Tommy Moore, Errol Walsh and Fran Breen. The band’s first single ‘Let Me In’ was released in 1984 and was followed by a slot opening for BB King in the National Stadium.

Over the years the line-up changed, but in 2007 Tommy Moore and Fran Breen re-joined the band, bringing things full circle. Successful releases, legendary live shows, including collaborations with Chicago Blues greats- Carlos Johnson; John Primer (Muddy Water’s Band); Canadian Bluesman, Jeff Healy, and acclaimed T.V appearances confirmed The Business as one of the hardest working Irish Blues bands.

Pat Farrell recently released his debut solo album. Entitled ‘Riff It Avenue’ it sees Pat continue to bring the best of Blues and Rock guitar to his audience. Together, Pat Farrell and Susan Tomelty are a near perfect musical match, bringing the best of Blues guitar, and a haunting, soulful, jazz/blues vocal.

Don’t miss it, folks! Come on out on Tuesday night, bring a friend, and enjoy a great night's music! Oh, and do Spread The Word! See ye in Mick's!
