Paul Byrne - Suas Volunteer Programme

I will be working in Kolkata, India this summer, as a teaching assistant in a disadvantaged area, writes Paul Byrne. This is part of the volunteer programme run by the Irish based NGO Suas Educational Development.

This is the first time I have become directly involved with Suas, although I have been aware of them for several years and have helped fundraise for them in the past.

I need to raise just under €3,000 as contribution for my participation in the programme. Here in Ireland money is scarcer than it used to be, but I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. The work Suas do is fantastic, and nothing is wasted. All money I raise over my target will be directly used in local projects with Suas's partners.

Please read a few words about the charity that I have chosen to support below. You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button via credit or debit card on the mycharity.ie website (Paul Byrne - Suas Volunteer Programme). You can be assured that your transaction on the website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your support.

NOTE: Paul is the youngest son of Brian and Vivienne Byrne. He plans to work fulltime in the development area when he has completed his studies. He will complete his degree at UCD in the coming months, as a mature student. He is a former student of CPC

Suas Educational Development

Founded in 2002, Suas Educational Development is a movement dedicated to supporting quality education in targeted under-resourced communities, with programmes in Ireland, India and Kenya.

What do we do?

Overseas Partner Development
We provide technical and financial support to six partner and education projects in India and Kenya, promoting high quality education for 13,000 children a year.

In Ireland
Our work in Ireland includes a nationwide Mentoring Programme run in conjunction with local partners, the Bridge2College which provides project and team-based learning approaches to Transition Year Students, Global Issues Course that run twice a year in colleges across Ireland, as well as a network of 7 college societies that support Suas through fundraising and assisting in our various programmes.

Volunteer Programme
The Programme provides an opportunity to volunteer in a community-based school or educational project in India and kenya every summer. Since 2002, 600 volunteers have taken part in the Volunteer Programme working with our Partner Organisations for ten weeks, while learning about different cultures.
