Kilcullen man wins Queensland title

A Kilcullen boxer has won his first professional title in Australia, writes Brian Byrne.

Dennis 'The Hurricane' Hogan became Queensland Super Middleweight Champion after knocking out Glen Fitzpatrick in the fourth round of a championship bout last week.

A carpenter by trade, he now lives in Brisbane after going to Australia to make a career in professional boxing. He has been undefeated since starting out.

Hogan is 26 and is being trained by Steve Deller, who encouraged the Kilcullen man to travel down under.

He was Irish Intermediate Champion in 2008/2009, and subsequently cemented a solid amateur career with a Multi Nations gold medal in Israel in 2010 and another International Tournament gold in the same year.

Hogan was a member of the Grange Con Boxing Club as an amateur, and now boxes with the Fortitude Boxing Club as a pro.
