Controversial sculptor dies

The sculptor for a piece which Kildare County Council proposes could be placed in The Valley has died unexpectedly.

Eamonn O'Doherty's 'Homeward' is the artwork commissioned as part of the M9 Motorway art contribution, and has recently been the subject of discussion in Kilcullen over the Council's proposal. There are divided views on the suggested location.

The Diary understands that the piece will be completed, as it is already in process at the foundry.

The artist has a major reputation at home and abroad for his public sculpture works. They have frequently been controversial.
