Mullaghmast walk on TG4

A programme recalling Daniel O'Connell's 'Monster Meeting' in Mullaghmast in October 1843 will be screened on TG4 on Sunday 22 May, at 8.15pm, writes Brian Byrne.

It's the fourth episode of the new historical walking series Coiscéimeanna, presented by journalist and keen walker Harry McGee, and retraces the route of the walk by O'Connell from Kilcullen to Mullaghmast, near Ballitore.

The meeting was the last of four which O'Connell held around the country in his campaign to have the Act of Union repealed and have a parliament established in Dublin.

Filming for the programme, which goes out at 8.15pm, was done last summer. It is produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi of Midas Productions. A repeat broadcast will take place on 27 May at 11.05pm.
