OPW asked about round tower lighting

Archaeologists in the OPW have been asked for advice on the possibility of lighting the round tower of Old Kilcullen.

This follows a request from Cllr Martin Heydon to Kildare County Council to examine the idea, in the light of the tower's historic significance for the area.

The Council responded by saying the matter had been referred to the Water Engineer, who reported that the tower is part of a Catholic cemetery, and perhaps Cllr Heydon could 'talk to the local parish priest' about it?

In the meantime, the Council's Heritage Officer Bridget Loughlin has contacted Senior Archaeologists in the OPW for advice, and a further report will be provided for the next area committee meeting.
