A bitterly cold morning with widespread frost and icy stretches. Dry with sunny spells, however pockets of freezing fog may linger in places. Highest temperatures of -1 to +1 degrees with light to moderate northerly breezes. Very cold again tonight.

DID YOU KNOW?

Margarine was invented in 1869 in France in answer to a challenge from Emperor Napoleon III to create a butter-substitute from beef tallow for the armed forces and lower classes. Shortages of beef fat during the world wars and the Great Depression accelerated the change to vegetable oils as the main ingredient, which has been the case since about 1945.
