Reclaiming The Valley’s slopes

The walkway from the Church down into The Valley was overgrown with a berberis bush which was never cut since it was planted 33 years ago in 1977, writes Jim Collins. The nature of the bushes was such that it could not be handled, but Alan, the local Fas worker, decided some weeks ago to painstakingly cut each growing branch, work which took him over two weeks.

Because of all this pruning there was an enormous amount of thorny bush waste lodged on the side of the steep incline to the lower path. Calling in the skill of Albert Keenan and his trusty JCB, the bushes were pulled to the lower path. Seven trailer loads of thorny bushes were then removed from The Valley.

On the very evening the work finished the big snowfall of 2010 started.

Our picture shows Albert Keenan and Jim Collins on site.
