Fallons get another award

Fallons Restaurant in Kilcullen has won yet another award, being voted the Top Regional member in the East & Midlands category of the Good Food Ireland Awards.

The accolade was presented at an event in Dublin's Shelbourne Hotel, by the Minister for Tourism, Culture & Sport, Mary Hanafin TD.

It was the fourth such event organised by the Good Food Ireland organisation and it was attended by more than 300 representatives from the food and tourism sectors including chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers, farmers, fishermen and food producers from the four corners of Ireland.

In all, 16 awards were presented by the Minister, with GFI founder and chairman respectively, Margaret Jeffares and Redmond O'Donoghue.

The awards are based on consumer nominations over the last 12-month period and an independent judging panel of six quality assurance representatives.

The members of Good Food Ireland employ some 5,000 people in businesses ranging from B&Bs to 5-star hotels to restaurants, pubs, cafes, cookery schools, food shops, food producers and farmers markets. The organisation's objective is to grow Ireland as a destination for good food and direct international visitors and Irish consumers to our member establishments so as to guarantee a quality Irish food experience.

The Best New Member award went to another County Kildare establishment, The Silver Restaurant in Newbridge Silver.
