Susie gets five golds in Hollywood
Six-year-old Susie Power from Calverstown won five gold medals and 11 others in the World Championships of Performing Arts which was held in Hollywood, California.
Susie, who plays 'Eleanor Daly' in the TV soap 'Fair City', was the youngest competitor in Team Ireland at the event, from which the 53 members took home scholarships, trophies, medals and awards.
Contestants from over 40 countries competed in dance, drama, singing, modelling, instrumental and variety competitions. Team Ireland won the Team Scholarship for the second year running and €500 was awarded to each member of the Irish Team for the NY Conservatory of Drama for their 2011 Summer Course.
Maureen V Ward, who runs the Talented Kids Performing Arts School based in Calverstown, was the National Director for the Irish team and won an award for Best National Director. The Irish team also won 1st Prize for the Costume award for their Opening Ceremony Parade which featured each team member dressed up in costume that resembled Celtic Mythology.
The team arrives back in Dublin this morning.
