Library computerised

Kilcullen’s Branch Library, which has recently been substantially extended, is now part of the county-wide computer system in the Kildare Library Service.

The system means the end of the old ticket regime in the Library, replaced by a bar-code card which is provided to each member.

“Now Kilcullen Library members can take out as many as 10 books at a time,” says Librarian Julie O’Donoghue. “It also allows them to access on the Internet the Library Service database and see where any particular book is available, and they can order it on-line.”

Of course, it also means that Julie can more easily keep track of books that are out on loan from Kilcullen, so helping to keep the inflows and outflows in better control.
