Great Gilltown walk

Despite the stormy weather there was a great turnout for the Gilltown Stud fundraising walk yesterday afternoon, which started off from Markeys Stray Inn.

The walk, the first of its kind through the famous stud land, was organised by the Brannockstown Community Committee and the Parents Association of the national school. The stud is owned by the Aga Khan and the sires Daylami, Kalanisi and Sinndar stand there.

Sponsorship committed to the walk even before it took place had exceeded 2,000 euros. The money will be used for a number of community events, including the upcoming Christmas Party for the children of the village, scheduled for 15 December.

"We're really lucky and very thankful to Gilltown to facilitate this walk," says Steve Schwer, one of the organising group.

The participants were also given a souvenir brochure of the stud during the walk. Afterwards they retired to Markeys for refreshments, music and a raffle. Pictures from the walk start are here.
