Scouts kick off another year

Another year of scouting activities with 9th Kildare Kilcullen Scouts kicks off this week with registration for all sections in the Den in Kilcullen.

This year promises to be another very exciting year for all with the Scouts hoping to build on their successes in the National Scouting Challenge and in the South Kildare Shield.

2006 – 07 finished on a high note with an excellent summer camp in Cork for Cubs and Scouts., with over 30 Cubs & Scouts, accompanied by 10 leaders, enjoying a full programme of activities for the week.

Some of the highlights of the week included the investing of tow new leaders during camp – John Delahunty after mass on the Sunday morning and Tracey Behan in the grounds of Barryscourt Castle on the Thursday.

Next summer, Jamboree 2008 will celebrate the Centenary of Scouting in Ireland, with scouts from all across Ireland and from abroad converging on Punchestown in August for what promises to make this a truly Irish celebration of scouting.

The Jamboree programme promises to be wide and varied. Scouts will be encouraged to take part in organised activities and will also be given an opportunity to plan programmes for themselves in order that they can participate fully in the event

Kilcullen Scouts will kick off their run in to Jamboree immediately. In order to ensure that costs are kept to a minimum for each Cub / Scout and to provide sufficient equipment for the camp, fund raising will take place throughout the scouting year and all local business are being asked to help.
