James wins bronze medal
James Nolan, Kilcullen's transplant athlete, won a bronze medal at the World Transplant Games which closed in Bangkok on Saturday.
He ran brilliantly to win the Bronze medal in the 400m. There were emotional scenes in the stadium as James was congratulated by colleagues and supporters, including his girlfriend Emma.
The first person James rang was his sister Catherine, who donated a kidney to give James a new lease of life 20 years ago.
“Winning here is a way of saying thanks to Catherine, for all she did for me,” he said.
The Irish team will bring a record 39 medals home when they return to Dublin Airport on Tuesday evening.
