Nail-biting Triple Crown

Kilcullen's streets were rather quiet for a Saturday from 1.30pm yesterday, when Ireland kicked off against Scotland to try and secure the Triple Crown.

The result, of course, is now nailbiting history. In a game where there was never a scoreline that couldn't change in a relatively few movements on the pitch, there were plenty of white knuckles clenched around pints in the town's various hostelries.

Bardon's was hosting a number of refugees from the previous night's 'Moon & Sixpence' concert. Moments of glee and gloom alternated so much that when the final whistle went there was little enough energy for a proper cheer. The one-point win itself was also too close to permit euphoria. But it only takes a point, doesn't it?

There was no question about the youngest supporter there, though, with Eddie Cross and Leanne's son Billy sporting the national colours, albeit sleepily.
