Tidy Town adjudicators 'impressed'

The adjudicators for the Tidy Towns Competition were impressed with the strategic direction for Kilcullen as outlined by the 2006-2007 Tidy Towns Plan presented to them along with a map showing the various projects receiving attention.

The town received 249 marks out of a possible 400 under a revised marking system that now has 10 headings for adjudication. The best rating was given for Overall Development Approach, scoring 43 out of 50.

Positive remarks were made about the bridge refurbishment, which now is a 'dignified structure worthy of the River Liffey', and also for the landscaping of the church grounds. The adjudicators also look forward to the completion of the Market Square development and of the sculpture feature on the south end of the town.

In the housing estates, Esker Lea received particularly favourable mention.

Downsides included the old perennial of litter, the overgrown state of the Valley Park, and the comment that a number of premises on Main Street 'do not fit well' with the Kilcullen Built Environment.
