Expansion work at Bardons
Work is proceeding apace at the back of Bardons which will result in a restaurant, new toilets, and a rooftop beer/smoking garden.
The work will also involve the removal of part of the back wall of the building, which was established as a hotel in 1896.
Currently owned by Eddie Cross, the bar is a popular place with those who like its old-style ambience, and live music at weekends. The move into food will add another layer of attraction to Bardons, and give Kilcullen people yet another choice for eating out without having to leave town.
Meanwhile, the Diary has heard good reports about the recently opened chinese restaurant at Hillcrest. Certainly the bookings are solid at weekends.
And with rumoured plans for a restaurant to be part of the new Market Square development, which is fast approaching completion, Kilcullen could become a focus for food in the county in coming years.
As it used to be over many decades from the fifties.
