Kilcullen postal service, 1846

There’s a fascinating account of the mechanics of the postal system relating to Kilcullen in the 19th century on the County Kildare Online Electronic History Journal -- an electronic journal for the publication of material relating to the history, archaeology and heritage of Co Kildare.

The information is part of an extract from the 1846 edition of Slater's Commerical Directory of Ireland and was compiled by Mario Corrigan.

Some of the views from the bridge as described are no longer there, and there's a note also about the 'sorry hamlet' of Old Kilcullen.

Worth a read, definitely.

The journal is produced by the History and Family Research Centre (Local Studies, Genealogy and Archives) part of Kildare County Library & Arts Services.
