Alone it Stands in Riverbank

A production of interest to rugby and drama aficionados alike will be presented at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge on Thursday 22 April.

Alone it Stands recalls how in 1978 the Irish province of Munster and its local rugby team challenged New Zealand's visiting World Champion All Blacks. The unthinkable happened and Munster won the match, 12-0.

The legend is now being celebrated on stage in an action comedy by Irish playwright and director John Breen.

While the grunt, groan and exhilarating choreography of the historical David and Goliath match takes centre stage, the play also portrays the dreams of an entire Limerick community and the human stories which surround the scrum.

This is funny, moving and highly physical theatre with six actors tackling 62 roles including the players, the coaches, the fans, the families, Sinbad the dog, and the Bunratty medieval singers. Even the worms in the football field come out of their holes to wave the Munster team to victory.
