Volunteers wanted

A person to befriend a lady in Kilcullen is among the volunteers being sought by the Kildare Volunteer Bureau.

The volunteer would be required to read aloud to the lady, and take her for coffee and other outings. The activity could be carried out on Thursday evenings or any afternoon.

The KVB says the volunteer would need to be patient and have a caring manner.

The Bureau is looking for individuals or community organisations to undertake a number of volunteer activities throughout the county.

These include work with the Arthritis Foundation in Newbridge, a Carers Association fundraising in Naas, a youth leader for the KYS in Naas, a handyman to do occasional maintenance and repairs for a visually impaired family, leaders for the youth club attached to Newbridge Family Resource Centre, drivers to distribute meals for a Day Centre in Newbridge, and a person with IT skills to help older people access the internet at the same location.

The Newbridge Asylum Seekers Support Group has a number of voluntary opportunities, including a childcare assistant, translators, and helpers to organise outings.

For these and other volunteer situations, anybody interested can register with Michelle at the KVB, phone 045 449156, or on its website.
