Traffic lights commissioned
The final touch has been made to the traffic calming at Scoil Bhride, with the commissioning of the traffic lights.
There has been some comment to the Diary that the ramps aren't high enough to make people slow 'to a crawl'.
That may be so, but there's an argument that they should only make it uncomfortable above the posted limit, for considerations of car damage and discomfort to vehicle occupants with ailments such as bad backs.
Truth is, while it may have been an early intention of the County Council to provide for a 30 km/h limit by the school, the guidelines promised for last spring by the Department of the Environment that would allow this have still not been received by the country's local authorities. So making such a limit is not yet possible.
Also, the Diary's Editor has another life as a professional motoring writer, and wearing that hat would remind readers that road safety is a joint responsibility of drivers and pedestrains.
Think about it. And teach your school-going kids. Sometimes, and far too often, they scare the hell out of me.
