Awards group formed
A group to organise the annual Tidy Towns Awards Night has been established withinn Kilcullen Community Action.
The awards will be presented on Friday 21 October. Before then, the organising group will have to collect the trophies from the current holders and arrange replicas for them.
The group comprises Esther Kiely, Margaret O'Shea, Ray Kelly, Noel Clare and Ronan Murphy.
Meanwhile, a proposal that a wooden plaque be established in the Heritage Centre to honour sports men and women of Kilcullen generated a degree of discussion at the recent KCA meeting.
The matter was prompted by a suggestion that members of Kilcullen Pitch and Putt Club who participated in the winning by an Irish team in a major European competition should be honoured in some way.
Niall McDonnell suggested the plaque idea, to which names could be added as required.
Ray Kelly wondered how far back should they go with the list, and also suggested that the sports clubs might be asked to get together to provide names from the past and present.
One suggestion was that the list might start from 2000, so that it related to this century, as going back too far could mean that deserving sports people might be forgotten.
