Dial '999' for hair care

If you can measure the increasing population of a town by its number of hairdressers, then Kilcullen's head count is lifting towards stratospheric levels.

The latest such business to 'click its scissors' is the Headrush salon opposite the White Horse Inn, but the two women involved in it are well familiar with Kilcullen heads anyhow.

"I worked for Shades 'n' Shapes as manager for two years," says Deirdre O'Connor, who hails from Newbridge. "I'm in hairdressing ten years - I trained in Peter Marks in Stephen's Green in Dublin, and I just wanted to open my own business."

Her colleague Anne-Marie Kavanagh is also originally from Newbridge, but now lives at Castlemartin. She also worked in Shades 'n' Shapes and prior to that in Toni & Guy in Clarendon Street in Dublin, and having lived in Kilcullen for the last three years she knows the town and its people quite well.

Deirdre is confident that there's business to be done, as the town is growing and she reckons there's plenty of potential. She also has an established client base in Kilcullen, which she believes will help Headrush get off the ground.

The operation is unisex, and the two are looking forward to meeting the hair care needs of both genders. And for that real emergency, they have the most appropriate phone number: 481999.
