Moloneys for sale

What must be Kilcullen's oldest shop frontage is a key architectural characteristic of the latest Main Street property to be put on the market.

Moloneys shop and residence is for sale by public auction on July 4, in Keadeen Hotel, with a guide price of €480,000.

There are two retail units in the 3,500 sq ft property, which also has five bedrooms and two reception rooms, as well as an enclosed yard with clear side access. It is a three-storey building, including basement.

Not used as a retail premises for many years, the main shop was formerly a drapery, tailoring and footwear business, and a bookmaker carried on a trade there in more recent times.

The property is on a pivotal point of what was once the main road down to the ford which in pre-bridge times crossed the river to where the Market Square now lies, and it is likely that Moloneys is actually one of the oldest buildings in the town today.

Full details are available from Jordan Auctioneers.
