Fifty boats in canoe race

Just around 45 minutes after the start of the annual Kilcullen Canoe Club Race from Ballymore to Kilcullen, the first pair of boats had a sprint finish at the dock east of the bridge.

Some 50 boats took part in the event, from clubs all over the country. Kilcullen paddlers provided monitoring and safety facilities. The weather was perfect for the event, and the river in full flood helped provide both speed and thrills, as well as the odd bit of danger from boughs and other debris swept up in the swirling water.
