Difficulties in updating directory

The difficulties of acquiring information and updating the Community Directory was the subject of considerable discussion at the recent meeting of KCA.

Siobhan Tutty-Bardon said she had been calling numbers in the current version of the directory, but many were just 'ringing out'.

Noel Clare said that 'between all of us, we should know most people'. He also suggested setting up a box in a few of the key shops in Kilcullen, inviting people to drop in details of their organisations or services.

Wondering 'how do we get to these people?', Bernard Berney said if people know about the directory, they would 'want to be in it'. But Ronan Murphy said that 'if it is published and people aren't in it, they come and tell us so very quickly'.

Noting that there were many people who provided services from their homes, Bernard Berney also wondered if the directory compilers should be trying to include them?

Celia Travers suggested that many of the community services which cover Kilcullen are operating from Newbridge, and there's a very good list of those in the Newbridge Parish Directory.

Noel Clare said that An Post also has a 'data base of every local business', but he wasn't sure how freely they might supply it. There was also a suggestion that an online search relating to Kilcullen be made on the Golden Pages website.

Kieran Forde said up to 3,000 copies of the new directory would be needed because of the increase in Kilcullen's population. A discussion about funding resulted in Siobhan Tutty-Bardon taking on the task of checking if a grant would be available. Noel Clare said 'The Bridge' might be able to help financially.
