Colm revives old video memories

It's that time of year when spring sunshine encourages all of us to try and tidy up, writes Brian Byrne. And likely, among all the stuff in the drawers, are those old VHS and other obsolete format family event videos that you can't view any more.
Kilcullen-born Colm Lambe has the answer in the form of a service to transfer those old and not so old formats to the ones used today — DVD and USB.
"I bet almost every house has an old VHS tape somewhere," says Colm, who began offering the service during the pandemic when his wedding videographer business dried up. Manufacture of VHS equipment ceased in 2016, but Colm managed to acquire a number of players. He can transfer the content of any old digital media — VHS, VHS-C, 8mm Tape, Hi-8 tapes, and Mini DV tapes and discs. Onto DVD is still popular, but Colm also recommends USB sticks, because they don't need specialist playing machines. "You can plug them into your computer, or into the back of your smart TV, and away you go."
The cost is reasonable. Call 087 2877970.
