Kilcullen moves up in Tidy Towns

Kilcullen has gained four points over its 2015 performance in the 2016 National Tidy Towns competition, writes Brian Byrne. It also topped its category over Sallins and Monasterevin, while Straffan was the overall county winner.

Kilcullen gained its points in Community Involvement & Planning; Built Environment & Streetscape; Wildlife Habitats & Natural Amenities; and Sustainable Waste & Resource Management.

The 292 points total was from a possible 450. The National Winner 2016 was Skerries, Co Dublin, which achieved 327 points and also took the Tidiest Large Town title. The Tidiest Village winner was Birdhill, Co Tipperary with 326 points; and Listowel, Co Kerry, won the Tidiest Small Town accolade with 325 points. Ennis, Co Clare, won the Tidiest Large Urban Centre with 326 points.
